A new chapter begins for local families in Cheltenham

Local families will soon be moving into five high-quality new homes for social rent and shared ownership at the Cherringtons development in Cheltenham.

Delivered by Cheltenham Borough Council in partnership with Newland Homes as part of a Section 106 agreement, the properties consist of a three-bedroom house, 2 x two-bedroom houses and 2 x two bedroom bungalows.

Located at the Cherringtons development in Leckhampton, families are expected to begin moving into their new homes over the coming weeks, creating the latest addition to the growing community.

The homes have been designed to be energy efficient to help reduce energy use and keep household costs as low as possible. They have also been built with adaptable features to make day-to-day living easier and to support people to remain independent should their needs change over time.

Councillor Rowena Hay, leader of the council, said: “We are delighted to have collected the keys to these five high-quality affordable homes for social rent and shared ownership at the Cherringtons development. It’s fantastic to know that over the coming weeks, people will be moving into these homes and starting a new chapter in their lives.

“Helping to meet local housing need and giving more people the opportunity to secure an affordable home in the borough is incredibly important to us. This is why we are proud to have worked in partnership with Newland Homes on this development. It is another excellent example of how partnership working can deliver high-quality homes for local people.

“Providing more homes that are affordable and low-cost to run remains a key priority for the council. We will continue to work closely with developers and partners to increase housing opportunities, strengthen communities and help more people find a place they can proudly call home.”

The affordable homes have been delivered through a Section 106 agreement, a planning mechanism that helps ensure developments contribute towards local housing needs. Through this agreement, affordable homes are made available to local people who may otherwise be unable to access home ownership or affordable rented accommodation.
