Independent living schemes

We have nine sheltered housing schemes across Cheltenham, and a total of 511 properties. These schemes are supported by our team of dedicated housing support officers who are on hand to provide advice and guidance to help people remain independent in their home.

There are variations between the sheltered housing schemes, but mostly they provide the following features:

• Self-contained flat, studio or bungalow with its own bathroom and fitted kitchen
• Communal facilities such as laundry rooms, communal lounge, communal kitchens and communal gardens
• Security doors and safety features
• 24 hour emergency alarm system
• Social activities at our older people community hub

What can the housing support team help me with?

Our Housing Support team provides tailored support to help older people live a happy, independent life in their own home.

What we do:

• Detailed assessments carried regularly by skilled and experienced staff to identify support needs
• Signpost to relevant agencies that provide  support to maintain independence
• Benefit and money advice
• Tailored support to stay connected and active in communities
• Opportunities to access CBC Housing Services community hubs
• Support tenants in getting back on their feet after a life changing event or illness
• Living in our sheltered housing scheme tenants will benefit form 24 hour access to emergency help via the call system
• Living in our general needs properties, referrals can be made to the Gloucestershire Council Telecare scheme
• Our service is confidential and we will only share tenant’s information if they give us permission to do so

What we don’t do:

• Personal care
• Lifting and manual handling
• Administering medication
• Shopping, cleaning, washing and ironing
• Handling money and collecting prescriptions

Do I qualify for sheltered housing?

To be eligible applicants need to be 60 years or over (or 55+ with high support needs – an individual assessment will be carried out).
