Leisure@cheltenham is offering the chance to become a qualified lifeguard.
Following the success of the previous course, leisure@ is running the training again in July, which will enable people to gain The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), the most awarded lifeguard qualification in the UK that complies with all industry guidance.
The NPLQ is a recruitment requirement for a number of jobs from Pool Lifeguard to Centre Manager. On successful completion of the course, as a fully qualified Pool Lifeguard trainees could obtain a career within the leisure industry.
The NPLQ course duration is 38 hours and comprises of physical training and theoretical classroom work followed by a practical in-water and out-of-water assessment on pool rescue, first aid, CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and lifesaving skills, including defibrillator training. The qualification is valid for two years from the date of issue.
Nicola Rees, Activities Co-ordinator at Leisure@, said: Its an intensive course which will give trainees the opportunity to qualify as a pool lifeguard. The qualification is internationally recognised so can be especially useful for students wishing to travel abroad.
Rowena Hay, cabinet member for wellbeing and culture, added: This is the perfect opportunity to learn a new skill which could offer the chance of a new or different career. The course covers many areas which will provide invaluable transferable skills.
The course runs from Monday 23 July to Friday 27 July, 9am to 5pm, for full details email leisure@cheltenham. The cost for this course and the manual will be £250.
All candidates must be aged 16 plus before the start date of the course.
