Cheltenham Borough Council and developer Augur Buchler reached another milestone this week with the development of North Place and Portland Street with the exchange of contracts.
Jeremy Williamson, MD of Cheltenham Development task force commented This is yet another step on the journey to redeveloping these sites. It was particularly satisfying to exchange on the day that the media was dominated by news of a double dip recession and demonstrates that Cheltenham is maintaining its resilience to the worst of the economic downturn.
John Henley of Augur Buchler noted that We are delighted to have reached this milestone in the delivery of the re-vitalised North Place site. Whilst the Borough has had to contend with complexities associated with European regulations, the Task Force has been the driving force to making this achievable. We now look forward to the next key phase which will be the submission of a formal planning application.
The scheme aims to deliver much needed housing (including affordable housing), a public square, bus node, new foodstore (with its own dedicated parking) and over 300 public parking spaces.
The timeline for submission of a planning application has not been confirmed but it is anticipated to be early summer.
