Massive discounts off compost bins for Cheltenham residents
Cheltenham Borough Council is encouraging residents to do their bit for the environment by offering discounted compost bins.
The one day sale will take place on Saturday 21 April from 10am – 3pm at the council’s recycling centre on Swindon road.
There are two sizes of compost bin available to suit all sizes of families and gardens.
• Standard 220ltr compost bin costs only £3 (RRP £39.95).
• Giant 330ltr compost bin costs only £6 (RRP £49.95).
The scheme is being funded by Cheltenham Borough Council and the number of compost bins available at this price is strictly limited to 900 units, so residents are advised to pre-order to avoid disappointment.
Jane Griffiths, Director of Commissioning, said: “Cheltenham currently recycles nearly half of all its waste. However, garden waste and some kitchen waste can be easily composted at home. We have teamed up with Straight plc, the UK’s largest supplier of home compost bins, to provide Cheltenham residents with the opportunity to buy compost bins at a fraction of the retail price.”
“Home composting is a simple way to turn organic waste into a free supply of rich compost for your garden. What’s more, it is very simple to do. Not only does it enable you to save waste, but using a composter can also save up to 280kg of carbon emissions each year!"

The closing date for pre-orders is Tuesday 17 April and allocations will be made on a first come first served basis.
Once the 900 subsidised units have been sold, the cost of the compost bins will be £13 for the 220 litre and £16 for the 330 litre units.
This offer restricted to residents of Cheltenham borough and limited to one compost bin per household. A current Council Tax bill will be required as proof of residency.
Water butts will also be available on the day for just £15 (RRP £35.95), together with a range of discounted accessories.
Residents who are unable to attend the sale to collect a compost bin or water butt are able to request home delivery. However, the special offer prices quoted are for collection only at the one day sale. Home delivered compost bins start from £16 and an additional delivery charge of £5.49 will apply.
