A three-month partial closure order has been served on a property in Sun Street, Cheltenham, due to the on-going anti-social behaviour and drug related activity occurring at a vulnerable male’s home.
The order prevents anyone - except from certain named individuals and certain agencies - to be inside or on the property.
The order was successfully secured for the property by Cheltenham Borough Council’s housing team, neighbouring police and Solace officers. Working together, the agencies gathered evidence and investigated many reports of anti-social behaviour occurring daily at the address, disrupting what was previously described as a ‘peaceful environment’.
Sergeant Meredith Gosden, from the Cheltenham neighbourhood policing team, said: “We secured this partial closure order in conjunction with Cheltenham Borough Council and Solace as local residents had reported anti-social behaviour by those known to the tenants on a number of occasions.
“Anyone who is found in the property or attempting to enter without prior permission is committing an offence. I would like to ask those living in the area to let us know if they see this happening by calling the police on 999 for emergencies or 101 for non-emergency issues. The Solace case number is 5937.”
Cllr Victoria Atherstone, cabinet member for safety and communities at Cheltenham Borough Council, said: “We hope that through continued partnership working this action will better support this vulnerable individual and will give the community reassurance that this behaviour will not be tolerated, and that swift action will be taken to protect all, especially those deemed to be vulnerable.”
Magistrates granted the partial closure order at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 8 January 2025, to prevent continued disorder as well as to protect the vulnerable individual and the wider public of that area. The order will be in effect until 7 April 2025. Failure to comply with the order is a criminal offence which could result in imprisonment for up to three months, a fine, or both.
