Children and young people across Cheltenham showcased their creativity by designing their own No Child Left Behind (NCLB) poster to mark Clean Air Day 2024.
The winning poster by Polly Brown, a pupil in year 5 at Berkhampstead School, has been revealed on a bus stop along Tennyson Road.
The poster competition challenged children and young people to design colourful and informative posters that spread the clean air message and promoted this year’s Clean Air Day theme ‘clean up the air to look after your mind’.
Cllr Iain Dobie, cabinet member for climate emergency, said: “We are delighted to announce Polly as the winner of NCLB’s Clean Air Day poster competition. We received lots of creative and insightful entries, and I would like to thank everyone who entered.
“The winning poster will be displayed at the bus stop over the next two weeks, raising awareness of actions we can all take to make a positive difference to the quality of our air.”
The poster winner, Polly Brown, said: “I like to walk or cycle to school as much as possible, so this poster competition appealed to me. I found out about ways to clean up our air and enjoyed designing this poster.”
Jenny Hannett, teacher and eco council lead at Berkhampstead School, said: “At Berkhampstead School we have a very active eco committee who are keen to improve and protect the environment in and around our school. As part of our ‘Berky Gets Greener’ initiative, we have been working alongside Cheltenham Borough Council to explore air pollution and what changes we can make to lessen its impact on our lives.
“The poster competition was a fantastic opportunity for our children to be creative and to pass on the very important messages about air pollution to our wider community in Cheltenham.”
NCLB celebrated Clean Air Day 2024 with a fun and interactive campaign throughout June. This month-long project raised awareness about the importance of clean air for children by sharing simple tips that anyone can use in their daily lives, as well as interesting facts and statistics.
