Christmas and New Year recycling collections

At this time of year, many households produce more waste and recycling from wrapping paper, cards, and other gift packaging. You can recycle these materials yourself at home, or by making full use of our waste and recycling services.

Cllr Iain Dobie, cabinet member for clean and green environment, said: “The more we recycle this Christmas, the more our service provider Plan-B, gives us in donations to support Cheltenham’s Foodbank.

“During the festive period, we can all do our bit to reduce the extra waste which can build in our bins with packaging from gifts, wrapping paper and cards. Many of these items can be recycled or even reused. Of course, some items are non-recyclable and will have to go into the general waste, but if we can, let’s remember to recycle much as possible. 

“I would urge residents to check the council website and social media channels for the most up-to-date collection schedule, and especially residents who would normally have a collection on Monday 25 December 2023, as this has been brought forward by two days and will take place on Saturday 23 December 2023.”

Below are the Christmas and New Year revised waste and recycling collection dates. Please note that in some areas refuse and recycling collections take place as early as 7am so please make sure that your bins and boxes are presented at the kerbside by this time.

Christmas and New Year 2023/24

Normal collections resume Monday 8 January 2024. Please note the above dates are subject to change.

Garden waste collections will be suspended at the end of the day on Friday 15 December 2023 and will resume from Monday 15 January 2024.
