May bank holiday waste and recycling collection changes

Waste and recycling bins expected collections on Monday 1 May 2023, in the areas of Swindon Village, Springbank, Hesters Way and Pittville will have an earlier collection date of Saturday 29 April 2023 as part of special arrangements for the coronation period.

Waste collection dates for the rest of this week will remain unchanged.

No collections will be made on bank holiday Monday 8 May 2023 as collections that week will be scheduled a day later than usual.

Cllr Iain Dobie, cabinet member for waste, recycling and street services, said: “The bank holiday collection arrangements will ensure that not only will we return to usual collections quickly but that it’s fair to our hard-working crews giving them the chance to get involved in celebrations over the special bank holiday weekend.

‘’We’d ask all residents attending or hosting a coronation celebration to do their best, recycling everything they can, but better still reduce and reuse while enjoying the big day.”

Crews will be working up to and including Saturday 13 May 2023 to complete the catch-up.

In some areas refuse and recycling collections take place as early as 7am and residents are asked to present their bins, boxes, bags and caddies at the kerbside by 7am.

Normal collections will resume Monday 15 May 2023.
