Visual for new community and sports hub for Chelt Walk Park

St Peter’s and The Moors (SPTM) Big Local, in partnership with Cheltenham Saracens Football Club, are proposing a new community and sports hub development on the old BMX track area in Chelt Walk Park.

An open community consultation event will be held on Saturday 21 May from 11am – 2pm at The Big Local Stadium, Cheltenham Saracens FC ground. Members of the public are invited to come along to view the overall designs and give feedback directly to the architects.

Designed by Halsall Lloyd Partnership Architects, plans include a single storey multipurpose facility, comprising of upgraded changing rooms for the football team and social and community spaces including a bar and kitchen. The facility will provide usable indoor spaces for community and social activities. The design also considers the integration of the building with the park and aims to improve access and security to a neglected area.

The drawings and feedback survey will also be available to view on St Peter’s and The Moors website sptm.org.uk.

Cllr Max Wilkinson member for economic development, culture, tourism and wellbeing said: “Investing in communities is one of our top priorities and this new community building offers huge benefits for the local area, including brilliant new sports facilities.

Graham Roberts, chair of Cheltenham Saracens FC, continued: “This is an exciting opportunity not only for the club, but for this community. The building will provide the space for community and social activities and support SPTM (St Peter’s & The Moors) with continued investment in this community.”

This builds upon the 25 year lease for Cheltenham Saracens which was awarded to the club earlier this year in recognition of the club’s commitment both to the ground, and its positive impact on the wider community.
