New community fund launched to celebrate Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

A grant fund of £50,000 is available to local good causes, in support of the town’s celebrations to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Online applications open from 21 March until 27 May 2022. 

Following unanimous approval at full council last month, applications are now open for funding to support jubilee-related projects across Cheltenham.  The projects will help to create a legacy for future generations. Interested groups are encouraged to read the guidelines and apply for one of two funds:

Our Community Jubilee Fund which will support longer-term projects that will help the town celebrate and commemorate the jubilee. Grants of up to £3,000 will be made on a match-funding basis;

Our Community Building – Jubilee Fund which will support smaller-scale projects, events and activities that will help the town celebrate the jubilee. Grants of up to £300 will be made.

Cabinet member for finance, Councillor Peter Jeffries said: “We’re really excited to be launching this fund to coincide with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We would love local groups and organisations to get creative and think about what they can do to help us celebrate the Jubilee and also create lasting change.’’

Applicants are being asked to think of projects that meet at least one of the council’s six jubilee themes:

•          Events that bring people together to foster new relationships and help celebrate our diverse communities;
•          Projects that will improve local buildings or green spaces;
•          Activities that support our Cheltenham zero carbon target;
•          Projects that are focused on supporting our children and young people;
•          Projects that combine arts, digital and heritage innovations;
•          Projects that to support economic activity, supporting local retail areas and bringing people into the town.

Councillor Flo Clucas, cabinet member for healthy lifestyles added: “We are so lucky in Cheltenham to have so many organisations which are working really hard to support Cheltenham’s recovery after the pandemic, including resident–led groups, trader organisations, community groups and local schools. We hope this Jubilee fund will give them an extra boost and the opportunity to be part of a very special town-wide celebration in 2022.’’
