Cheltenham’s No Child Left Behind is delighted to announce a new partnership with the town’s spectacular Christmas ice rink.

Working with local schools, the partnership will ensure that many more families and young people in Cheltenham can access and enjoy this magical and long-awaited Christmas experience.

Families with children who are on free school meals will be given the opportunity to book a family ticket for a 50% discount for off-peak and a 25% discount for peak sessions. Letters will be going out later this week to all relevant families via their schools giving the details about how to book the discounted tickets.

Cllr Flo Clucas, member for healthy lifestyles said: “I’m delighted to see this partnership between No Child Left Behind and our very own Christmas ice rink. We know how challenging the pandemic has been for our communities, but particularly our children and young people and the impact this has had on both their physical and mental wellbeing. With our new Christmas ice rink, we have the most wonderful opportunity to spread a little joy through the whole of our community and ensure as many children as possible have the chance to enjoy this magical experience.”

The Cheltenham all-weather ice rink in Imperial Gardens, is an initiative led by Cheltenham Borough Council. It forms part of the town’s economic recovery activity, encouraging visitors to return and follows the success of the summer installation of the Big Screens.

Cllr Victoria Atherstone, member for culture, wellbeing and business said: “I am so pleased we’re working in partnership with Cheltenham’s No Child Left Behind campaign to help support more families across the borough to enjoy the wonderful experience of skating on an outdoor ice rink this Christmas. When Cheltenham Borough Council took the decision to invest in a Christmas ice rink for the town, it was driven by the recognition that this Christmas was going to be more vital than ever for the residents of our town and local businesses. It’s not often anyone gets the chance to experience such a festive activity so I’m delighted we’re being as inclusive as possible by working with local schools and businesses offering discounted group tickets too.’’

Cheltenham’s new Christmas ice rink, which is located in the town’s Imperial Gardens is set to open on Thursday 18 November and will be open daily (expect Christmas Day) through to Sunday 2 January 2022. More details can be found at www.visitcheltenham.com/ice-skating.
