Phase one pitch improvement works to Burrow’s Field in Leckhampton have now been completed.

The partnership project includes improved drainage, levelling and reseeding of the football pitches and cricket square to the north side of the field.

Cllr Victoria Atherstone, cabinet member for culture, wellbeing and business, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that phase one is finished. “The fencing around the new pitches will stay in place for a couple more weeks to allow the grass to become fully established.”

Mark Beaney from Leckhampton Rovers Football Club comments: “The pitches look absolutely amazing. It will not be too long now before they can be used and that is so exciting for the club and wider community.  It has been worth the wait!”

The work, undertaken by Carrick Sports, forms part of a project the council is working on with Leckhampton Rovers Football Club (LRFC) who has made the field their home ground. The sports pavilion is due to be completed in October and the team from Carrick Sports will be back on site next spring (2022) to complete phase two of the pitch improvements.

The perimeter path has also been finished as part of the phase one works, thanks to support from Gloucestershire County Council’s ‘Growing Our Communities Fund’, secured by Cllr Iain Dobie. The new path allows visitors to walk right round the field.

Cllr Iain Dobie, cabinet member for waste, recycling and street services, says: “I’m really pleased that the county council have funded the extension of the path round the field and I’m proud to be working with LRFC and Cheltenham Borough Council to make improvements to Burrows for the benefit of our residents.”

Funding for the entire project has come from the Football Foundation,a charity which channels money from the Premier League, FA and the Government and S106 development funds with additional contributions from LRFC, the Enovert Community Trust, Cheltenham Zero Community Fund and Leckhampton and Warden Hill Parish Council.
