Payback scheme workers repaint park railings

Around 400 metres of railings around Cheltenham’s parks have received a fresh lick of paint so far, thanks to a joint project between the council and Gloucester Probation Services.

Railings at Sandford Road, Cox’s Meadow and Sandford Park alongside the hospital have been completed to a high standard.

They have now moved to Whaddon Road where work began earlier this month (16 May).

Wayne Sedgwick, community ranger for Cheltenham Borough Council, says: “We’re pleased to be part of this project with the probation services, which enables the participants to give something back to their community whilst gaining some work experience along the way.

“The council provides the paint and equipment, and the work parties are supervised whilst the painting of these much loved railings is carried out.

“The completed work looks brilliant and we’re looking forward to seeing more of these great results around our parks very soon.”

Stewart Wellman from Gloucester Probation Services continues: “We fully support working in partnership with Cheltenham Borough Council as part of this long term current project. We always receive positive comments from the service users and the public alike about the work carried out and the difference it makes to the local parks.”

This is an ongoing project for at least the next 12 months.
