Improvements to Cheltenham’s household recycling centre

The facility will close for one day on Monday 12 August and will reopen a little later than usual at 9.30am on Tuesday 13 August.

Improvements include changes to the site layout to make the best use of the space, new signage and internal safety barriers and new larger bring banks so that more recyclable materials can be taken; some of the existing skips for hard plastics, wood, batteries and foil are also being refurbished or replaced.

Councillor Chris Coleman, cabinet member for clean and green environment, says: “We are pleased to now be in a position to make these improvements as suggested by residents after our last survey at the beginning of the year.

“We’ve listened to the comments we received and hope that the new layout with improved safety and signage – and larger skips – will make a real difference to our customers’ experience.”

The council is currently looking at what extra materials can be collected at the centre such as mattresses, carpet and other plastics, and would like to hear any further suggestions and get more feedback in its latest recycling survey which runs until 13 September.

Paper copies of the survey are available at the council’s Municipal Offices, Cheltenham Borough Homes resource centres, and the town centre library for those residents unable to access the on-line survey (www.cheltenham.gov.uk/waste-recycling-consultation).

Please note: if the weather is very wet on Monday 12 August the household recycling centre may need to be closed on 13 August as well so customers are asked to check the website before they visit on that day.
