Iggy for Physically Active month of July

As the summer approaches, the No Child Left Behind project team has been busy creating a fun and rewarding challenge for every child in Cheltenham.

Cllr Flo Clucas member for healthy lifestyles said: ‘’There are lots of free or low cost ways to keep active in our town through the summer and we are challenging you to try as many as you can. It’s very simple, all children have to do is collect stickers for their #PhysicallyActive summer challenge wallchart each time they take part in an activity at any of the places listed www.cheltenham.gov.uk/nclb.

“We’re grateful to our partners Cheltenham BID who have developed the free Hidden Cheltenham Summer trail, which begins 17 July, with a goodie bag given to each child that completes the trail.’’

Kevan Blackadder, director of Cheltenham BID, said: “The Hidden Cheltenham trail we ran at Easter proved very popular and we’re delighted to bring the town a new trail for the whole of the summer holidays.

“Thanks are due to the many businesses who have donated gifts for the goodie bags.”

The #PhysicallyActive summer challenge wallchart can be collected from Cheltenham Borough Council’s Municipal Offices, participating schools, or downloaded at www.cheltenham.gov.uk/nclb.

Tracy Brown safeguarding and partnerships manager, continued: “Lots of local organisations such as Leisure at Cheltenham, Sandford Parks Lido, the Playfarm and many community based groups have signed up to provide NCLB stickers.

‘’Once children have completed their chart they can hand it in at Leisure at Cheltenham, Hester’s Way Community Resource Centre, Oakley Resource Centre or the Municipal Offices to be entered into a prize-draw. Ten lucky winners will be invited to have afternoon tea with the Mayor of Cheltenham.’’

As a result of Cheltenham and its partners’ needs assessment, Cheltenham Borough Council and its partners have committed to a year of action called No Child Left Behind that will:

  • Highlight the issue of children growing up in poverty in Cheltenham and the inequality between them and their more affluent peers
  • Start to address the inequality gap beginning with 12 month programme of events and activities
  • Be a call to action for all sectors to work together to make transformational change over the longer-term.
