The buzz of excitement in Cheltenham’s High Street continues with huge brands Urban Outfitters and Luke 1977 both open for business today.

The lifestyle retail store Urban Outfitters is the first branch to open in the county and the first UK store opening for the brand in four years; and Luke 1977 brings luxury menswear to the mix as Cheltenham’s retail offer continues to thrive.

Cllr Steve Jordan, leader of Cheltenham Borough Council, says: “We’re delighted to welcome Urban Outfitters and Luke 1977 to our high street. These stores are much anticipated additions to the very popular Brewery Quarter.

“Cheltenham continues to grow as a destination for shoppers with the opening of John Lewis and the newly revamped Next last week, and with The Botanist and SLG also investing here.

“We’re investing at the same time in the upgraded high street with the new seating, trees and paving which is looking good and due to be finished shortly.

“Initial results from a survey out this week indicate that the town has seen an 84% increase in footfall and a 206% increase in bicycle movements along the high street through Boots Corner since the transport plan trial began. This is very good news indeed.”

Kevan Blackadder, director of Cheltenham Business Improvement District (BID), said: “It’s great that such a popular brand has opened a new purpose-built store in Cheltenham. Urban Outfitters has always been a retailer that people have wanted to see in the town.

“For The Brewery Quarter, it provides an anchor retail store that will no doubt help attract others to a part of the town that is really taking off.”

Demelsa Coleman, marketing manager for The Brewery Quarter, said: “This is an incredibly exciting time for us. We will have welcomed a total of seven new tenants since this time last year.”
