The town’s website, ‘World War One Cheltenham’, has been given a new logo, which will be seen for the first time this Sunday (13 November) on the Remembrance Sunday order of service.
The logo was chosen from a number of designs by local graphic designers Hills Design.
Early versions were shared with the borough’s World War One Commemoration project group and the final design was approved by Cllr Rowena Hay and Mark Sheldon as cabinet lead and sponsor for the project.
The design does not include the poppy motif to ensure there would be no confusion with the Royal British Legion’s trademark poppy used in their fundraising appeals.
Helen Down, participation and engagement team leader at Cheltenham Borough Council, says: “We’re pleased to unveil the new ‘World War One Cheltenham’ logo on this year’s Remembrance Sunday’s order of service.
“A lot of work has been put in to ensure that the logo has the right tone and feel for our commemorative site, and also that the colours used complement the Royal British Legion’s Remembrance poppy and all that it symbolises.”
The website (ww1cheltenham.org) was set up as part of the Cheltenham Remembers Project, to share information about the restoration of the war memorial which was completed in September 2016, and to share plans to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.
