A special civic service is being held at Cheltenham Minster (St Mary’s, the old parish church) at 1.30pm on Saturday (11 June) to celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.
The service will be followed by a peal of bells.
Tudor Griffiths, rector of Cheltenham, will lead the service and the mayor will be attending along with the borough’s freemen, aldermen and councillors.
Tudor Griffiths, says: “The majority of us living in Cheltenham are Elizabethans, knowing no other monarch. The Queen represents stability in our country and gives us a wonderful example of faithful service and duty.
“We will be singing joyful hymns including tunes from all round the United Kingdom and everyone is warmly invited to attend. There will be cake for all and a free copy of the book 'The Servant Queen and the King She Serves’ for people on a first come basis.”
Cllr Chris Ryder, mayor of Cheltenham, continues: “I’m really looking forward to taking part in the Queen’s birthday celebrations at Cheltenham Minster, which is in the heart of the town. Her Majesty is an inspiration to many and it is wonderful that we have the opportunity to celebrate this royal birthday together.”
