New agreement secures future for Cheltenham’s biggest landlord

The event, held at the St Paul’s community hub, was a joint celebration for Cheltenham Borough Council (CBC) and Cheltenham Borough Homes’ (CBH) who have signed an agreement securing their successful partnership for the next 30 years.

Those attending included Deputy Mayor, Chris Ryder, Councillor Steve Jordan, cabinet leader of CBC, CBC’s cabinet member for housing, Councillor Peter Jefferies, local councillors, CBH board members and representatives from CBC and CBH. The star guests were members from CBH’s Kids clubs who each received a balloon bearing a tag printed with details of the plans CBH has to grow and develop over the next 10 years.

The management agreement sets out the conditions of the contract between Cheltenham Borough Council and Cheltenham Borough Homes for the delivery of housing services to council house tenants and leaseholders. These services cover the management and maintenance of approximately 5,000 council owned homes and a commitment to improve and regenerate communities and provide services to support residents improve their life chances.

The signing of this agreement secures CBH’s position as Cheltenham’s biggest social landlord and will allow the arms length management organisation to continue providing high quality housing and support services.

Stuart Hutton, Chair of the CBH Board said: “For over a decade the partnership we have with the Council has allowed us to make a difference to the lives of thousands of people living in the homes we manage, so we are delighted to secure our position in the community until 2045.

Our role goes far beyond the traditional management and maintenance of council housing. More than just a landlord, CBH is placed at the centre of the community and by working closely with our customers we have expanded our services, providing opportunities and support to help people improve their life chances and build communities where people want to live now and in the future.”

Mr Hutton added: “We’ve got exciting plans for the future and securing this 30 year agreement will allow us to move forward and continue delivering high quality services that will benefit people living in Cheltenham for many years to come.”

Cllr Steve Jordan, leader of Cheltenham Borough Council, says: “Over the last 10 years Cheltenham Borough Homes has done a good job in managing the flats and houses owned by the council as well as providing wider services and support for the residents who live in them. This gives us the confidence to enter a new 30 year agreement to continue that work and in developing a programme of building new affordable homes to help meet the need in Cheltenham. I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed to this successful partnership and give CBH my best wishes for the future.”

Plans for the future are outlined in CBH’s Business Plan to 2025. Over the next 10 years CBH will focus on shaping stronger communities by providing high quality homes and making a difference to people’s lives by empowering and inspiring them.

The business plan will be officially launched next month.
