Leisure@cheltenham is offering the chance for swimming enthusiasts to become qualified lifeguards.
Following the success of previous courses, the centre is running the training again on Monday 22 July until Friday 26 July. It will enable people to gain The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), the most awarded lifeguard qualification in the UK that complies with all industry guidance.
The course will run from 9am until 5pm daily, with a slightly later finish on the Friday as this will be assessment day. The course costs £250 and will include an external defibrillation course.
The NPLQ is a recruitment requirement for a number of jobs from pool lifeguard to centre manager. On successful completion of the course, as a fully qualified pool lifeguard, trainees could obtain a career within the leisure industry.
The NPLQ course is made up of physical training and theoretical classroom work followed by a practical in-water and out-of-water assessment on pool rescue, first aid, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and lifesaving skills, including defibrillator training. The qualification is valid for two years from the date of issue.
Nicola Rees, activities co-ordinator at leisure@cheltenham, said: “The course offers an intense five day programme, where applicants gain a globally recognised qualification that will benefit those pursuing a career as a lifeguard.”
All candidates must be a minimum of 16 years old on the assessment day.
