The month of November is being named 'Inspire Month' and to kick things off the team are holding an open weekend of FREE taster sessions in various activities at leisure@cheltenham on Saturday 3 November. The 'Be Inspired' open day will feature various clubs and groups providing taster sessions in a number of sports including archery, indoor golf, diving and trampolining, whilst also offering a health walk and other physical activity options. Clubs and groups will be on hand to offer advice and information for anyone wishing to get involved and join a group.
The activities on offer are aimed to appeal to everyone; from children, to students, to parents and grand parents.
Tom Sparks, sports development officer at Cheltenham Borough Council, said: We dont want the dust to settle on what was an incredibly inspiring Summer of Sport. We see this as an ideal way of not only inspiring youngsters, but also parents, carers and families to try something new and find inspiration through sport and physical activity, whether that be through participating or volunteering. The open event on 3 November is a great way of getting families together to try those sports that arent seen as easily accessible and break down those barriers to participation.
Through working with local clubs and groups, we can create awareness of activities available in peoples local communities and really ensure that November and beyond is inspirational.
Cllr Rowena Hay, cabinet member for sport and culture, added: We want to utilise the legacy that the London 2012 Olympics left us with and encourage people to try and take up a sport that interests them. Christmas is coming and with the over indulgence it can bring we want to give people the opportunity to get healthy and enjoy a new challenge.
The Be Inspired open activity taster day on Saturday 3 November is free to attend to find out more call Tom Sparks on 01242 264324. There will also be a running log of activities available to access online throughout November to encourage everyone to Be Inspired - more information is available at the council's website.
