Building control privacy statement
Why we collect information about you?
We collect the information to process applications for building control services, respond to reports of dangerous structures and issue demolition notices. We also have a statutory duty to maintain a building register (in order to answer property history searches and as a record of structural work carried out on a building)
This task is carried out by the council under the Building Act 1984 and the Building (Approved Inspectors etc.) Regulations 2010.
What information do we collect about you?
Your name, address, email address and phone numbers. Proof of disability for applications where the fee may be waived
Who do we share this information with?
- Other local authorities (partnership schemes)
- Other consultees (such as the Fire Service in commercial applications)
Is there any information transferred to or stored on servers based outside the EEA?
No.
How long do we keep your information?
We keep information about you for a maximum period of 16 calendar years (15 years plus current) from the date of completion.

What are the consequences if we do not collect the data?
The council will be not be able to fulfil its legal obligation to provide building control services.
