Schedule of saved Local Plan policies
Under the Planning & Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, existing Local Plan policies were saved for a period of three years from the date the plan was adopted. In Cheltenham's case, Local Plan policies were saved until July 2009.
In April 2009, Cheltenham Borough Council applied to the Secretary of State to extend the saved policies beyond July 2009 and under powers given by the Planning and Compensation Act 2004, the Secretary of State has directed that all of Cheltenham Borough Council's Local Plan policies are saved beyond July 2009.
These policies form the current framework used by development control to determine planning applications in addition to relevant guidance and national policy such as the National Planning Policy Framework. The saved local plan policies will gradually be replaced by new policies contained in the Joint Core Strategy and any future Development Plan Documents (DPDs).
