Encouraging economic and business growth
The Promoting Cheltenham Grant Fund 2012 was a pot of funding to support events, projects and initiatives that will stimulate economic and business growth in Cheltenham.
Successful projects
12 projects initially were successful with a total allocation of £96,350:
- Cheltenham Poetry Festival - outreach project
- Christmas in Cheltenham project
- Cheltenham Design Festival
- Rebuild of Cheltenham Racecourse Station
- Midsummer Fiesta 2013
- Folk Festival - Audience development project
- Cheltenham Dance Festival
- Suffolk Traders community project
- The Ukulele Festival
- Montpellier Association project
- Cheltenham Comedy Festival
- Top of the Shops Awards
£60,000 worth of funding remained for further projects, subject to submission of further evidence. An assessment panel were asked to evaluate the additional information against the original criteria.
Projects had to deliver one or more of the following outcomes:
- increased visitor numbers
- increased new business investment
- increased retention, investment and expansion of existing businesses
- increased recognition of the Cheltenham brand on a national/international scale
The 60,000 was allocated between the following successful projects:
- Cheltenham Development Task Force – Cheltenham & Glos event promotion project
- Gloucestershire Printmaking Co-operative – Printmaking Festival
- Holst Birthplace Museum – Information board
- Meantime Projects – Viability & visibility project
- Cheltenham Open Studios – Visual Arts Event
- Cheltenham Festivals – Website project
- Gloucestershire Media – FAB event 2013
- Cheltenham Hospitality Association – Promoting Cheltenham at exhibitions project
- Cheltenham Borough Council community team – Diamond Jubilee book
- Bath Road Traders' Association – Bath Road Christmas Event
Previous funding
The first round of the Promoting Cheltenham Fund was launched in July 2011, and on 18 October 2011 cabinet agreed to support 14 projects. Details of these can be found here.
