2025/26 Information to go with your bill

Where your council tax goes
Your council tax helps to pay for a range of public services provided across Gloucestershire. Each household receives a bill and the amount each household pays depends on which property valuation band the home is in and any discounts or exemptions that apply.
There are 8 valuation bands which relate to the value of the property on 1 April 1991, with the value of new properties being assessed back to this date.
The council tax you pay goes towards three different areas (called precepts) for the main part of Cheltenham:
- 11 per cent of the council tax we collect is kept by Cheltenham Borough Council (including parish councils)
- 75 per cent of the council tax goes to Gloucestershire County Council
- 14 per cent of the council tax goes to the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gloucestershire
This may vary slightly if you live in a parish.
