The information below is for commercial and non-commercial productions. The general public do not need to seek permission for personal filming.
General filming enquiries
If you’d like to film in a public space in Cheltenham, you will need to apply to us for permission - please read through the information below. If you want to film on private land or commercial premises, you only need permission from the property owner, you do not need to contact us.
If filming for commercial purposes, please provide us with the following details:
- The name of your production company, the type of production and a contact person and telephone number
- The scale of the production in terms of numbers of personnel and vehicles
- Adequate public liability insurance and risk assessment document
- Location of film
- Purpose and outline of your plan for filming
- Are you filming general views or are there specific places you want to film?
- Proposed filming dates

If you would like to discuss your requirements please phone 01242 262626 and ask for the green space team.
A fee will apply and you will be required to enter into a location agreement with Cheltenham Borough Council - view the conditions and licence application.
Applications should be made no later than 10 working days (Monday to Friday) prior to your proposed filming date.
Filming in Cheltenham's council owned parks and open spaces
If you’d like to film in one of Cheltenham Borough Council’s parks or gardens, and this is NOT for commercial purposes please send the following information to Cheltenham Borough Council’s parks team at [email protected]
- Public liability insurance certificate (to the value of at least £5million) and risk assessment document
- Location of film
- Purpose and outline of your plan for filming
- Are you filming general views or are there specific places you want to film?
- Proposed filming dates
A fee will apply and you will be required to enter into a location agreement with Cheltenham Borough Council - view the conditions and licence application. These will not apply to students.
Applications should be made no later than 10 working days (Monday to Friday) prior to proposed filming date.
