A new crematorium for Cheltenham
Following major £8.5m redevelopment works, Cheltenham’s new state of the art crematorium at Bouncer’s Lane Cemetery opened to the public in March 2019.
The redevelopment saw two new Cotswold stone chapels built, and sympathetic landscaping of the site which has been planted with shrubs and wild flowers to complement the tranquil spaces around the buildings and views towards the escarpment. The new chapels, just to the east of the former crematorium building, have seating for 150 people and 75 people respectively.
The development project has won national recognition. Our new buildings have contributed both towards our cemetery and crematorium team being shortlisted for the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) service awards as a finalist in the 'Best Service Team: Cemetery & Crematorium Service' category and our success in being awarded ‘Best Commercial Council’ by the Municipal Journal. The construction has also been submitted for a Civic Trust Award based on its architectural merit and community benefit.
